Variations Ideas

  • Seasoning – Feel free to add in additional spices or fresh herbs. You can add in dried oregano, garlic cloves, salt and pepper, fresh thyme or fresh rosemary. The options are endless.
  • Veggies – For a complete meal idea, you can easily add in fresh vegetables to the skillet. We have added in cherry tomatoes, fresh broccoli or fresh asparagus.
  • Sauce – To add flavor to the sauce, feel free to add in Dijon Mustard, honey or maple syrup. These would also be a great substitute for the brown sugar.
  • Chicken – We used boneless skinless chicken breasts in this recipe, but you can also use chicken thighs.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1 – In a skillet, drizzle extra virgin olive oil.

Step 2 – Filet the chicken so they are thinner (or pound them)

Step 3 – Place in the skillet and season with pepper. Allow to brown

Step 4 – Flip and allow to brown again.

  • Step 8 – Remove the lid and let all the juice cook out.
  • Step 9 – Serve with your favorite sides.

Recipe Tips

  • Brown Chicken – The trick to any amazing skillet chicken recipe is to make sure you completely BROWN the chicken on both sides. You want that chicken nice and brown. It adds a lot of flavor without any extra seasonings.
  • Coat Chicken – After adding in the glaze, make sure you are flipping the chicken to coat. This will ensure that the chicken is full of flavor.
  • Simmer Chicken – After the glaze has been added, allow the chicken to simmer in the skillet. We recommend using a meat thermometer to ensure that the chicken is cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165 degrees. Cooking time will vary.
  • Skillet – Feel free to use any type of skillet to cook this recipe. We like to use a cast iron skillet because of the delicious texture it gives the chicken.
  • Pound Chicken – To make sure the chicken has an even thickness, pound with a meat mallet. This will help to cook it evenly.
