Valentine’s Day Dinner can be delicious and affordable!

A Valentine day dinner doesn’t have to cost a ton of money to be delicious and to be romantic.  We have put together some of our favorite recipes that are not only easy to make but affordable too so that you can easily make a date night dinner at home!

You don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant to make Valentine’s Day special.  I love making a fancy dinner at home, setting the table with our “nice” dishes and enjoying each other’s company.

These are some of my favorite recipes that I love to make for a special occasion that don’t break the budget and I hope you enjoy them too.

This valentines day menu has steak, potatoes and more.

This complete meal is perfect for Valentine’s Day!  You can easily create a romantic dinner at home without blowing your budget and without sacrificing taste too!

The Main Course – Tangy Slow Cooked Steak with Smothered Onions

The first item on our menu is steak!  We always enjoy steak on holidays and to celebrate special occasions.

I love making steak in a crock pot for lots of reasons.  The first is that I can buy a cheaper steak and still have it taste delicious.

I usually buy round steak for this recipe which costs about $4-5 per lb. You’ll need about 2 pounds for this recipe, so our total so far for this meal is about $10.

The best part of this recipe is that you can use whatever cut of steak is the most affordable in your area.  Whether it’s round steak, skirt steak or sirloin steak…either of these will work great in this recipe.

Don’t worry the steak will still be tender since it’s cooked in the slow cooker all day.

Side – Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

These potatoes are SO SO SO good! They are a favorite at our house. I love making comfort foods for special occasions.

These are one of my favorites to make and here are a few other potato recipes that I love to make too!

Besides being delicious, these potatoes are easy to make and potatoes are always inexpensive at the grocery store so that’s a win-win. Besides the red potatoes, you probably have everything else you need in your pantry to make these.

Again, you can use use your favorite type of potatoes in this recipe.  I prefer red potatoes, but russet potatoes, sweet potatoes or yellow potatoes would work great too!

The potatoes might set you back about $1 so now our Valentines Day menu total is up to about $11.

Vegetable – Pan Fried Zucchini

Zucchini is another favorite of ours. This delicious recipe takes no time to make. Sauting this zucchini makes it packed with flavor and it’s simple to make it no time at all.

Again, buy whatever vegetable is on sale.  I have made this with half zucchini and have squash before and it was delicious.  This is a great way to save money and shop the sales.

We can often get zucchini for under $1 per pound at our local grocery store (and a pound should be plenty for this recipe). Our total for this meal is now about $12.

Now for the best part…Dessert – Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

What better dessert for our Valentines Day menu than these yummy Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies? These taste great and will barely cost you a thing! A bonus? You will have plenty left over to throw in the kids’ lunches for school. 😉

These cookies have all the flavors of a classic red velvet cake but take a ton less work to make.  These are one of my favorite cookies and I’m guessing they’ll soon be one of your favorites too!

Here are a few of my other favorite cookie recipes that I love too. Trust me…any of these recipes will be perfect for your Valentine’s Day dinner at home this year!

Since you only need a boxed cake mix (a couple of eggs, oil and powdered sugar), these won’t cost much. We can often find boxed cake mix on sale for about $1 – if you have a coupon you might even be able to get some for under $0.50.

And the grand total is…

If you were keeping track throughout this post, you will know that the grand total for our dinner for 2 is only… about $13! That is an incredibly LOW price for a delicious dinner for two!

If you are planning on a nice relaxing night in this Valentines day, there is no need to settle for boring food. I hope you try and love these dinner ideas to celebrate with your Valentine this year.
