What Does Sock It To Me Cake Mean?

Sock It To Me is a catchphrase that was popular on a comedy show in the seventies. This popular southern butter cake is made with simple ingredients and is a cross between coffee cake and pound cake.

This cake is traditionally made with a cake mix that ingredients are added to give it that moist and tender texture. Feel free to also make the cake from scratch.

Ingredients

Ingredients - Yellow Cake Mix, sour cream, sugar, oil, water, eggs, vanilla extract, brown sugar, cinnamon, pecans, powdered sugar, milk
  • Yellow Cake Mix – You can substitute with a white cake mix
  • Sour Cream – This gives the cake a moist and tender crumb
  • Granulated Sugar – Added for the perfect amount of sweetness

Step 7 – Bake for 45-55 until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. If the cake is starting to brown too much on the top, loosely cover it with foil until it’s baked through.

Step 8 – Let the cake cool in the pan for 20-30 minutes on a wire rack. Then carefully flip the cake onto a serving platter to remove the cake from the pan and allow it to cool completely.

Step 9 – Whisk together the glaze ingredients until smooth and combined. Spoon the glaze on top of the cake and allow it to drizzle down the sides of the cakes.

  • Step 10 – Let the glaze sit for 10-15 minutes to harden some and then the cake is ready to slice, serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Prepare Baking Pan – I recommend flouring a bundt pan with all purpose flour instead of just spraying it with a non-stick spray for easy removal of the cake from the pan.
  • Room Temperature Ingredients – For a smooth and creamy texture, we recommend using room temperature eggs.
  • Pecans – To enhance the pecan flavor, try roasting the pecans in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. Let cool before combining with the pecan mixture.
  • Baking Cake – Baking time will vary but make sure to not over bake the cake. We like using a toothpick to ensure it is completely baked. If the toothpick comes out clean then the cake is done baking.
  • Cool Cake – Allow cake to cool completely on a cooling rack before adding glaze.
