  • Pork Chops – We used Bone-In about 1-inch thick
  • Dried Thyme – If using Fresh Thyme, learn How to Dry Thyme
  • Vegetable Oil – Use any type of oil
  • Cloves Garlic, minced – Learn How to Mince Garlic Cloves or use garlic powder
  • Chicken Broth – You can also use Chicken Stock
  • Heavy Cream – Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter version.

How to Make Smothered Pork Chops

Step 1 – Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and dried thyme.

Step 2 – Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add thick-cut pork chops and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.

Step 3 – In the same skillet, add sliced onions. Cook for 8-10 minutes until softened and lightly caramelized.

Step 4 – Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 5 – Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute.

Step 10 – Cover and simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes, or until pork chops are cooked through (internal temperature of 145°F). Serve hot, spooning the onion gravy over the pork chops.
