  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – Gives the best chocolate flavor. You can also use hot cocoa mix
  • Dark Chocolate (70% cocoa) – Chop chocolate to easily melt

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate

In a large saucepan milk, cream and pumpkin puree with small bowls of brown sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla and dark chocolate pieces

Step 1 – In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, cream, and pumpkin puree over medium heat.

Step 2 – Add cocoa powder, whisking until fully incorporated and no lumps remain.

In a large saucepan mix in cocoa powder and pumpkin pie spicce, vanilla extract and chocolate pieces

Step 3 – Add chopped dark chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.

Step 4 – Whisk continuously until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth and hot, about 5-7 minutes. Do not let it boil. Remove from heat and pour into mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice, if desired.

  • Hot Chocolate Texture – For a smoother texture, blend the hot chocolate with an immersion blender before serving.
  • Chocolate – I probably wouldn’t go over 70% cocoa in the dark chocolate, it may not be sweet enough. But if you want to use a higher cocoa percentage, just adjust the sugar content.
  • Combining Ingredients – Make sure to whisk together ingredients until their are no lumps. You want a smooth texture before serving.
