Step by Step Instructions
For the Cookie Cake
- Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 inch round cake pan or pie dish with a non-stick baking spray. We have even lined it with parchment paper to easily remove from the pan to cut.
Step 2 – In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until creamy. Then add in the egg and vanilla extract.
Step 3 – Mix in the baking soda and salt. Then slowly add in the dry ingredients until just combined.
Step 4 – Gently stir in half of the M&Ms into the flour mixture. Combine until texture consistency is smooth and creamy.
Step 5 – Press the cookie dough batter into the prepared pan and then press the remaining M&Ms on top.
- Step 6 – Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are just starting to turn slightly golden brown. Be careful not to overcook. It’s better to unmake the cookie dough than over bake it as the cake will continue to cook as it cools.
- Step 7 – Let the cake cool completely before adding the frosting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Store the leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 4 days. There is no need to store in the fridge. This cookie cake does not last long in my house.
Yes, you can freeze the cookie dough or already baked cookie cake. If you are freezing the cookie dough, we like to press into a disposable pie pan, cover with plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze. You can also freeze the baked cookie cake but wait to frost it until ready to serve. Thaw the cake at room temperature, then frost and serve. If store properly the cookie dough and cookie cake will last about 3 months.
