This Halloween dessert is adorable. No scary ghosts around here!  We prefer the cute ones in my house! My family loves Halloween, but we try to stay away from the scary Halloween – we make it all fun and kid friendly. If you want a fun Halloween treat then this is for you.

How to Make Ghost Cupcakes

For the Cupcakes:

  • Step 1 – First preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2 – Then mix together the chocolate cake mix ingredients according to the box instructions.  Fill each muffin tin with cupcake batter until they’re approximately ¾ of the way full.
  • Step 3 – Next bake according to boxed mix instructions for the cupcakes and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
  • Step 4 – After the cooking time allow the chocolate cupcakes to cool completely at room temperature on a wire rack.

  • Step 5 – Beat butter and powdered sugar until fluffy and well mixed.
  • Step 6 – Mix in fluff and vanilla by hand and mix well.
  • Step 7 – If needed mix 1-2 tablespoons milk to get to the desired consistency.

How to Decorate the Ghost Cupcakes

  • Step 1 – Once the cupcakes have cooled, fill a piping bag with a large round decorating tip with the marshmallow creme frosting.
  • Step 2 – Mark a swirl with the marshmallow creme frosting on top of the cupcakes.

  • Step 3 – Then place 3 chocolate chips (for the eyes and the nose) on the front of the marshmallow swirl to make the adorable ghost face on your cupcakes.

Instructions

For the Cupcakes:

  • Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit and line 2 cupcake pans with cupcake liners.
  • Mix together the cake mix, water, vegetable oil and eggs in a large mixing bowl.
  • For each cupcake tin in the pan approximately ¾ of the way full. Bake based on the package instructions.

For the Frosting:

  • Beat butter and powdered sugar until fluffy and well mixed.
  • Mix in fluff and vanilla by hand and mix well.
  • If needed mix 1-2 tablespoons milk to get to the desired consistency.

To Decorate:

  • Place the frosting in a piping bag fitted a large round decorating tip.
  • Pipe a swirl of icing on top of each cupcake.
  • Place 3 chocolate chips (2 eyes and a nose) on the front of the frosting to make your ghost face.
  • Then the cupcakes are ready to serve and enjoy!
