Homemade powdered coffee creamer
I thought it would be fun to show you how to make Homemade Powdered Coffee Creamer. This is crazy easy to do and is an easy money saver.
Over at my house, Dunkin Donuts is our favorite coffee. When family and friends come over for the holidays, Dunkin Donuts is what we serve with desserts. I know my mom enjoys a nice cup of coffee with her slice of pie.
I thought that I would show you today how to make delicious homemade coffee creamer to pair beautifully with your favorite coffee.
Powdered coffee cream recipe is easy!
Not only is it affordable, but this homemade coffee creamer will save you time and money. The savings will add up and it tastes amazing.
Ingredients:
- Powdered Milk
- Powdered Sugar
- coconut oil
How to make powdered coffee creamer:
First, mix together the dry ingredients.
Next, slowly drizzle the melted coconut oil over the dry ingredients. (Since it has been pretty warm in my house, I did not have to melt my coconut oil – it was already quite ‘liquidy’.)
I used a mason jar and just had to put the lid on the jar and shook everything together like crazy. (by the way Amazon has some super cute mason jars on sale right now)
Finally, I then took a butter knife and broke up any bigger pieces, then shook again. You can also use a food processor if you prefer.
The heavier coconut oil tends to settle, so I suggest making this in a container that can be tightly sealed so you can mix it a bit before you use it.
Why do I add Coconut Oil?
If you like regular, non-flavored coffee creamer, I am confident you will like this base recipe. It adds a nice creamy texture to your coffee that the store bought creamers add.
The coconut oil adds that extra bit of creaminess that you will find in store bought creamers. I tried making this creamer without the coconut oil, and it just wasn’t the same. It is kind of hard to explain, but try your creamer in your coffee before adding the coconut oil and you will see what I mean.
This will save you money!
Here is the cost break down, in case you are like me and like to see the proof!
Powdered Creamer costs about $4 for a 35 oz container, which is about $0.11 per ounce. (I am basing this off the Walmart brand creamer – Coffee Mate would be more expensive, even with a sale.)
Here is what I spent to make my homemade version:
- Powdered Sugar, 2 lb bag – $1.50 = $0.19 per ½ cup
- Powdered Milk, 8 qt box – $6.98 = $0.22 per 1 cup
- Coconut Oil, 14 oz – $6.42 = $0.23 per tablespoon
Now its time to get excited! Altogether my 12 ounces of homemade creamer cost just $0.64. That comes to just $0.05 per ounce!! That means if you made 35 ounces of this homemade creamer, it would only cost you $1.86! That is significantly less than $4!
Can I get a woo-woo?!

Our family enjoys it more than store bought. Not only does it taste great but the partially hydrogenated coconut oil extends shelf life. This powdered coffee creamer is rich and creamy and so very easy.

Homemade Coffee Creamer
Ingredients

- 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil (melted)
Instructions
- Mix together the dry ingredients.
- Slowly drizzle the melted coconut oil over the dry ingredients.
- Stir together to combine all the ingredients.

I hope you enjoy it!
It is completely up to you. I would start with a teaspoon and go from there.
I’m probably missing it somewhere, but I can see how much to put in each coffee cup?
Going to try this even though powder milk here in Canada is $15 a kg or more powder sugar is $5 a bag and coconut oil is over $25 a kg jar…this recipe has no chemicals additives etc
I think you can just leave it out and it will still taste great. Thanks
I haven’t tested that yet, but I think it will work and be delicious!
Would it work to substitute Splenda for the powdered sugar?
Hi Carrie-
I just made your 3 ingredient powdered coffee creamer and had a cup of coffee and it is exactly what I have been looking for! You definitely earned a huge WOO HOO!
Is there another oil that would work as well? I am terribly allergic to Coconut and Palm. I cannot buy dry creamers and really hoping to find a way to make my own. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
So glad if found this! I was going through jars of creamer. Made it even more budget friendly with Winco’s bulk bins. Got a question tho’. How do I liquefy this for cold coffee? Or would the coconut oil clump up in the cold ldrink.
Absolutely amazing! This coffee creamer was so quick and simple to make and tasted fantastic! Having health issues I try to stay simple but tasty and organic! I used monk fruit sweetener whipping it (in my bullet) for seconds and watched it turn into powder sugar! Added the rest of the ingredients.. sifted it through to get the small lumps out.. and WOW not only was my family impressed for the flavor… But how quick and easy it was to make it! Stay healthy my friends!!
Made three jars of this, vanilla, mint chocolate and chocolate- absolutely perfect recipe!!
I’m so glad you loved it!
Sooooooooooo good and soooo easy! I mixed this using my food processor . . . added a 1/4 cup of Powdered Whipping Cream and a whole vanilla bean (filleted and scraped). Triple the ingredients if you multiply the recipe x3. Although, I didn’t multiply the vanilla bean because I think the one was enough. We, my family and I, love it! Thank you for the recipe!
So Thankful for your site! I am excited to find the recipe for powdered creamer! We are enjoying things we Love and saving $$ and our health as well. Thank you !
Easy peasy Had a selection of sweeteners so tried a flavor variant
MOUNDS CREAMER!
I cup powder milk
1/2 cup coconut sugar (1:1 replacement, looks like brown sugar)
1TBSP coconut oil
2 tsp of imitation vanilla
I love coffee and can’t wait to try this recipe. What is the size of mason jar you used?
Thanks for sharing this with us!
I haven’t tried it yet but you should be able to use stevia instead of the sugar in this recipe. Stevia is a lot o sweetened though so you would need as much. I would start with 1 to 1 1/2 tsp and then taste test it and add more if needed from there. I hope you enjoy it!
I use stevia and low-fat milk for my coffee. I would really like to use your idea, but don’t want to add the sugar. Any ideas on how to make your powdered creamer using stevia?
Thanks Glenda!
I love the Dunkin extra extra in the refrigerator section of creamers. But when it’s not available I can’t wait to try your recipe!
