Variations Ideas

  • Coffee – We usually just use brewed coffee when making this recipe, but you can also use espresso shots. Using espresso shots will results in a stronger coffee taste but with the adding milk and syrups it makes the best iced coffee. You can even buy cold brew coffee at the grocery store to make this recipe.
  • Milk – Feel free to use the milk of your choice. You can use almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, and even coconut milk. Just use what fits into you diet restrictions or what you prefer.
  • Syrups – There is nothing better than a iced vanilla latte to start my day. I love adding syrups and extracts for added flavor. Vanilla extract, vanilla syrup and caramel sauce are my favorites and adds the perfect amount of sweetener to any ice coffee drink.

Step by Step Instructions

A mug of strong brewed coffee

Step 1 – Brew a strong cup of coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature, or chill it in the refrigerator.

A glass of ice with bowls of milk and syrup

Step 2 – In a tall glass, fill about three-quarters with ice cubes.

Pouring the coffee over the ice

Step 3 – Pour the cooled coffee and serve over the ice.

Pouring the milk into the glass of coffee

Step 4 – Add 2 tablespoons of simple syrup, or adjust the amount based on your preferred sweetness level. Stir well to combine the syrup with the coffee. Pour in the milk and gently stir to mix.

  • Step 5 – If desired, add a splash of flavored syrup like vanilla or caramel for extra flavor. Optionally, top with whipped cream.

Recipe Tips

  • Coffee – If you are using fresh brewed coffee allow it to cool to room temperature before mixing in the milk and ice.
  • Combining Ingredients – When pouring in the milk, gently combine with the coffee.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Store Leftovers

If you have leftover coffee, it is up to you if you want to store it in the fridge. For the best flavor, we recommend using fresh brewed coffee but if you do not want it as strong, you may want to store in the fridge. I would use the leftover coffee within about 24 hours.

Is Iced Coffee the same as Cold Coffee?

Cold coffee is coffee that has been set out on the counter and it gets cold. Ice coffee is coffee that is fresh brewed and then poured over ice.

What Type of Ice is Best?

We like using crushed ice cubes but you can use any ice cubes that you prefer. We have even made coffee ice cubes with ice cube trays for even stronger coffee taste.

Recipe Notes

Coffee Strength: The strength of your coffee can greatly impact the flavor of your iced coffee. If you prefer a stronger coffee taste, consider using a dark roast or brewing the coffee stronger than usual.
Sweetness Level: Adjust the amount of simple syrup based on your preference for sweetness. Start with a small amount and add more as needed.
Cold Brew Option: For a smoother taste, use cold brew coffee instead of regular brewed coffee. It’s less acidic and can be more flavorful when served cold.
NOTE: Simple Syrup is typically found in the beverage or cocktail mixers section. It’s a common ingredient for cocktails, so it’s often stocked near items like club soda, tonic water, and other mixers.

I like to use a medium to dark roast coffee. I would not use a flavor coffee. I hope you enjoy it!

What type of coffee is recommended. Iโ€™ve never made my own coffee before and Iโ€™m trying to buy the coffee machine, coffee grounds and/or instant mix, but I donโ€™t know what to choose. Should I go with regular roasted or get a flavored one?
