Variations:

  • Chicken – Feel free to use other types of chicken. You can use chicken thighs or chicken tenders. Make sure to cut about the same size.
  • Change the Meat – You can change the meat to shrimp, pork, or beef. Make sure to cook the meat before mixing with the other ingredients.
  • Noodles – Any thick noodles will work with this recipe. We do not recommend thin noodles. We have even used ramen noodles for an easy swap. For our family we made about 4 packets of ramen noodles and mixed with the other ingredients.
  • Hoisin Sauce – If you are making this dish and are out of Hoisin sauce, you can substitute with plain BBQ Sauce or Oyster Sauce. This is definitely a condiment that we like to always have on hand.
  • Other Vegetables – Add in other vegetables for added flavor. Slice mushrooms are always a great addition. We also recommend baby corn, bean sprouts, snap peas, and chopped broccoli.

This was delicious! My changes: I had no red pepper so I used celery and broccoli and water chestnuts. I used spaghetti instead of udon noodles. Loved the sauce! Loved the meal – yum yum!
