How to Make Grilled Turkey Burger Recipe
Step 1 – In a large mixing bowl, stir together the lean ground turkey, egg, salt, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder until well combined. Use your hands to thoroughly mix the ingredients.
Step 2 – Divide the ground turkey mixture into 6 equal portions. Then form the balls into patties that are approximately 4 inches wide and 1 inch thick and make an indent in the center of each patty with your thumb.
- Step 3 – Place the turkey burger patties in the refrigerator (covered in plastic wrap) while you preheat the grill.
- Step 4 – Preheat the outdoor Grill over medium high heat (approximately 450-500 degrees Fahrenheit). Rub oil on the grill grates to prevent the patties from sticking to the grill.
- Step 5 – Place the patties on the grill over direct heat. Cook for 4-8 minutes (flipping the patties halfway through the cook time) until the turkey patties reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to make sure that the patties are cooked to a safe temperature.
- Step 6 – Place the buns on the grill and cook for 1 minute until they are browned slightly. Watch them closely so that they do not burn.
Step 7 – Add a lettuce leaf to the bottom bun of each bun.
Step 8 – Remove the patties from the grill and add them to each of the hamburger buns on top of the lettuce.
- Then top each patty with the tomato and onion slices. Serve warm and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Choosing Oil – Use any oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, coconut oil or avocado oil will all work great in this recipe.
- Cooking Methods – We love the flavor that the gas grill gives these turkey burgers, but you can also use a charcoal grill. We usually grill them directly on the grill grates but you can also use a grill pan. If you prefer, you can cook on the stovetop in a cast iron skillet for any easy indoor recipe.
- Cooking Time – Cooking time will vary depending on the size of your patties. We recommend using a meat thermometer to ensure your burgers are fully cooked.
