Why We Love This Recipe

Making homemade tacos are a staple weeknight meal or when we are feeding a crowd. These salmon tacos are a family favorite because of the way it taste and how easy they are to make.

Adding the slaw toppings takes these tacos the ultimate recipe. We make ours with pineapple, avocado and more. It really takes the salmon tacos up a level for a great meal.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Grilled salmon tacos - Salmon Filets, olive oil, chile powder, paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, lime, pineapple tidbits, tomatoes, onion, avocados, cilantro, tortillas, red cabbage, cotija cheese

For the Marinade

  • Salmon Filets (approximately 6 oz each)
  • Olive Oil
  • Chile Powder
  • Paprika
  • Cumin
  • Salt and Black Pepper
  • lime, juiced

For the Salsa

  • Pineapple Tidbits, drained
  • Roma Tomatoes, diced
  • Red Onion, chopped
  • Avocados, diced
  • Fresh Cilantro, chopped
  • Lime Juice
  • Salt

For the Tacos

  • Flour Tortillas (6 inch)
  • Red Cabbage, shredded. This give it the perfect amount of crunch.
  • Cotija Cheese

Variations Ideas

  • Seasoning – Sometimes, we also add a little garlic powder, onion powder or extra chili powder. It is very easy to adapt the spices based on what you have on hand or prefer.
  • Tortillas – You can easily different types of tortillas. You can prepare the tacos with corn tortillas or flour.
  • Salsa – The cabbage slaw can easily be changed to what you prefer. For a creamy texture, mix in Greek yogurt. Mix in jalapeño for a hint of spice.

How to Make Salmon Tacos

  • Step 1 – Preheat the grill. Use medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees F).

Step 2 – Coat the filets in oil. Drizzle the olive oil onto the salmon filets. Mix the other marinade ingredients in a small bowl combined well. Rub this seasoning mixture onto the salmon filets.

Step 3 – Put the salmon on the grill. Place the seasoned salmon filets on the grill and cook for 6 to 7 minutes per side until the salmon is cooked through. Remove the salmon from the grill and flake the salmon into large pieces.

Step 4 – Make Salsa – While the salmon is cooking, prepare the salsa by gently stirring all the salsa ingredients together in a small bowl. I like to add just a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.

Step 5 – Prepare tacos – Then it’s time to assemble the tacos. Place the red cabbage on the warm tortillas. Then layer with the salmon fillets, salsa and cheese. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t overcook the salmon. It does not take long to cook. Salmon will quickly become tough if cooked too long.
  • Use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature of salmon should be 145 degrees. I use a digital meat thermometer to ensure it is fully cooked. This also helps to prevent overcooking.
  • Skin side down. If the salmon fillets have skin on them, place this side down on the grill first.

Instructions
