This is an easy and delicious recipe. I used frozen cut green beans and steamed them stovetop for 5 minutes. Used to make this many years ago for Thanksgiving and added it back this year. My family wants it every year now!
The cooking time will remain the same.
How does cooking time change if I use fresh green beans opposed to frozen?
How many cans of green beans for 18 servings please
No you do not have to cook them first.
If you are using frozen green beans do you cook them first?

I personally don’t like green bean casserole, but my family loves it! We make this for all our big family dinners.
Not a fan of this. I fixed green beans with bacon and onion.
I used fresh green beans. I didn’t prepare it ahead of, just did it the day of. It was a little time consuming doing fresh but it was well worth it!

So easy and delicious
I always buy double the amount . The first batch disappears. Day after I have to make another! My family loves the onion rings so much I put double the amount on top. Several hands take away my onion rings once I put them on my green beans.
I have also made this to go with Turkey, pork chops and chicken. ALWAYS a winner.
Fantastic side dish for the holidays (I’ll be making this casserole when it’s not Thanksgiving or Christmas) because I love it
I have never thought of putting some of the french onions IN the green beans! Genius! Puts a whole additional flavor to it!

Green beans casserole is one of my favorites. I never liked it at first until I had to learn how to make it in middle school. I like to add fresh or canned mushrooms to mine. I’ve had great memories making/eating this dish. My favorite is when my grandma added way to much pepper one year for Thanksgiving everyone joked about it and we still talk about it.
I made this but instead of mushroom soup I used cream of chicken soup ( consentrated). I don’t like mushrooms. The family loved it
So good!
I grew up in a home with a mom who did not make green bean casserole. I think if I had been I probably would’ve liked the vegetable a whole lot sooner! I have to be honest I have been known to make this as a main course.

Family favorite for sure
I’ve always used the classic Campbell’s recipe and this is very close. I was a little nervous about frozen green beans and how that would change the flavor profile or thickness but it turned out almost exactly the same. Quick, easy and my kids absolutely loved it so you can’t ask for mor.
This is a favorite at our house! We love it!
Yummy n so easy!
Instead of green beans I use broccoli. Kids love it.
I change out the milk for cream cheeses and pour it over.
Not a big green bean casserole fan. Thanks!
I did this for a church gathering and they all raved about it
I like this dish but for some reason didn’t make it this year. It was kind of a not so happy thanksgiving

One of my favorite recipes!
You can’t go wrong with a good green bean casserole.
I’ve made this this past 2 years for our Thanksgiving Lunch at work and I make it in the crockpot and it turns out so delicious. As a matter of fact when my son saw me putting it together he was upset that I wasn’t making it for our dinner that night. We love green bean casserole
Took your advice and added cheese to this traditional recipe…. husband loved it!!!
I love green bean casserole. I use fried onion rings. I break some up and mix in, then I cover the top of baking dish with them and bake for 35 minutes.
I made this but used fresh green beans, made my own homemade cream of mushroom soup and fried fresh sliced onions up. Tastes a lot better than frozen beans and canned soup That’s for sure. That’s one of the dishes my kids always ask me to bring.. and one of the first things to disappear!!
Family favorite!
My family loves green bean casserole we add cheese to the top.
Such a classic. Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without it. Recipe comes together so easy. Which is important when you have so much to do when preparing dinner for a crowd. This recipe is always a hit. Only downside is…. There’s never left overs!
I personally do not like green bean casserole but everyone else enjoyed it.
I have never been a fan of green bean casserole, but have never tried this recipe. I will give it a try.
We make this at least once a month. Everyone loves it.
Loved this recipe
A must have at all holiday meals. Make for everyone of them
This is a must in our home. It came out so good , thank you.
Super simple recipe, quick to prep ahead. Only complaint is you might want to let it sit/cool for about 20 minutes to start to solidify a little bit but it will still be piping hot .
This is a must in our home! Such an easy recipe!
My family of grown children never would eat green beans so I never tried the casserole. I think I’ll try it for myself to eat and see if my grandkids will try .
One of my favorites make it every year
I make this every year the exact way but I use canned green beans instead of fresh. Green bean casserole is one of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes.
This is a staple dish in our family. We have it every Thanksgiving.
I’ve never made this however I’ve heard a lot of people love it. I think I’ll give this one a try.
My daughter loved this !

My daughter fixed this. Yummy!
I will pass this recipe on since it was delicious.
This is a staple in our house every Thanksgiving
So delicious I add more crispy onions on top than suggested lol
Make this every year. Its my SIL’s favorite side. He loves it. This year I used cream of chicken rather than mushroom since mom is allergic. It was really good!
The joke at our house was always “if anyone shows up at the door with a green bean casserole, don’t let them in” . I won’t be making this.
The best Thanksgiving traditional recipe. Im “assigned” to make this every year and it’s always my pleasure. ??
Delicious! This is a staple of mine for every holiday! I never knew to stir it up before adding the additional onions on top. Great idea!
Love this recipe!
I have made this it was a hit, everyone loved it!
My mom made it this year and added extra mushrooms that she had sautéed. It was delish!
My favorite side dish on Thanksgiving
My favorite casserole!
love green beans , but family not a fan of casseroles.
I try to make my own cream of mushroom soup due to msg issues. Love greenbean casserole
No one in my family likes green bean casserole, so I make green beans the way my Granny did. Fresh green beans cooked with chopped bacon and I sprinkle a few funions on top for crunch.
I have never made or eaten green bean casserole!
Love making this, used cream of cheddar for a cheesy alternative!
My girls do not like mushrooms so instead of cream of mushroom soup we add cream of chicken. We omit the soy sauce and add more crunchy fried onions or garlic salt for flavor. They are picky eaters and don’t like a lot of veggies but will eat green beans this way so it is made often.
I make this every year and I mix in shredded cheese ?. One of my family favorites!
This is exactly how I make mine using the canned green beans. I love it!
I normally don’t add the milk to my green bean casserole and have to have it every Thanksgiving and Christmas
My mom use to make green beans with mushroom soup all the time when I was kid. We never had the onion on top. I forgot about beans like this. Will have to try with the onions. Looking forward to the extra twist. Thanks for the idea.
Sometimes I add cheese to my green bean casserole. You should try it
We all love this recipe (well all except our 50 year old son who still not eat anything with butter, cream or. Sour cream). However, I don’t make it for Thanksgiving I will just make it on a whim any time of the year.
This is the recipe I use EXCEPT I truly hate mushrooms. I have tried them every way possible. I really want to like they, but, nope, no way at all. I use Cream of Celery or Chicken. Such a great flavor side dish with those yummy onions on top.
I use a sour cream base instead of the canned soup it was actually really good
I make this every Thanksgiving.
I love green bean casserole, but we don’t always have it. One year I tried a healthier version, with fresh green beans, no mushroom soup, but fresh mushrooms and slivered almonds—I don’t remember the substitute for the soup, but my boys didn’t like the healthier version as much.
We make it multiple times throughout the year
My family loves my green bean casserole, that I named Damn Beans. I am not a fussy cook and like things simple. To make this, all you need is drained bacon bits with mushrooms, chez whip and green beans. Mix it all together and keep it warm in oven. Easy and yummy.
Going to make this for the 2nd time. Always use cream of chicken instead. May have to try cheese this time.
Green Bean Casserole is always on our Thanksgiving menu!
We have green bean casserole every year for Thanksgiving (we have 3 family dinners so that’s a lot of casseroles). I like to add a little extra French Fried onions and mushrooms to mine. I also like to use cracked pepper vs. ground.
We love green bean casserole it’s a staple side of our Thanksgiving. When I make it I add fresh mushrooms and chopped onion.
Great recipe
Green bean casserole is a standing request from my father on the holidays and, of course, I’m always happy to make them for him. One thing I always do is add a small can of mushrooms. We love mushrooms and I like to incorporate them into my recipes when I get the chance. Try it!!
Always make this for Thanksgiving!! I love to add shredded cheddar cheese to mine, makes it even more delicious!!
I do not make green bean casserole because i am the only one who would eat it.
I also add a couple slices of American cheese. I just tear it into small pieces and shove it all around. Once the casserole is heated, I store it all up before putting the fried onions on top. Gives it a creamy cheesy boost. A friend passed that tip on to me in college and I’ve been doing it ever since.
We love this casserole! I use my garden green beans(frozen) and add grated white cheddar!
Come on you gotta have green bean casserole to be Thanksgiving. The only change I make is adding Bella mushrooms and topping it with sliced almonds. I just never liked the canned onions which others feel is a MUST !!!
I love this recipe. I substitute the cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken. I’m not a fan of mushrooms but I love green bean casserole. The substitution is delicious.
I like to add sauteed onions in the green bean portion also. And, no, not every year.
Green bean casserole is something I only discovered when I moved to NC from NY 19 years ago. I use canned beans and mix some of the crispy onions into the bean mixture as well as putting them on the top. It’s yummy the day of and definitely as a leftover.
We always have green bean casserole at the holidays. It’s a must, ? yum.
We love GBC! we make it every year and add some cheese 🙂
I like to saute my green beans with garlic & bacon for a few minutes for a little extra flavor.
I always use cream of celery because my people don’t like mushrooms
This dish is mandatory at the table, per my BF! He LOVES IT!! I am not so smitten with it, I will have one serving and I am happy. My boys aren’t fans either but luckily, my bf and his family are so we don’t end up having to waste.
As for the recipe, I have seen many different versions some use worcestershire some do not. I always add a little to mine. I tried to healthy it up a bit one year, and I used fresh green beans, and there was a revolt so I use the canned now all the time. I also added some chopped bacon to the green beans and that was a hit. I add it if I have it, leave it out if I don’t. It’s not a deal breaker.
I make this recipe every year and every year my husband still hates mushrooms so that’s more for me to eat!! It’s a win, win!
I sometimes add either Worchestershire Sauce or Soy Sauce. Also a little garlic.
It’s either me or my mom that makes the green bean casserole every year
I put cheese in my green bean casserole. And we make it every year
I would just make it the day before, but not cook it. Then on Thanksgiving just cook it according to the directions.
If I were to make this the day before Thanksgiving and reheat it in the oven the day of, how long should I heat it at and how long? Tia
This is a really good tasting recipe, and the simplicity was amazing. I would highly recommend that others make this for dinner. I did add some extra dried onions to the top because I like that crunchiness. I was also out of milk, so I added the correct amount of mixed Instant Non-Fat Dry Milk. To my surprise there was not a noticeable difference.
I left the green beans frozen and I used cut green beans but french green beans would work great too!
Do you leave the green beans frozen or do you cook them first. Do you use French green beans or cut green beans
.
So easy and so much better than most recipes! Usually this is the dreaded dish no one wants but was a huge hit!
Used this for Thanksgiving & everyone loved it.
