Why This Recipe Works
Whether you’re making these as an after school snack or for a Halloween Treat, everyone is going to love them.
Twinkies are good by themselves, but when you add an extra touch for Halloween, they’re even better. Halloween Ghost decorated food is a must for every Halloween, too. Check out these Ghost Cookies and Ghost Cupcakes.
Ingredients
- Twinkies – We usually make one per kid
- Candy Eyes – I bought mine on Amazon
- Almond Bark – Melt one rectangle per two Twinkies

Variations Ideas
- Change Chocolate – Now if you don’t want to use almond bark, you can easily use these white candy melts or melt some white chocolate chips. Both would be equally delicious.
- Candy Eyes – Also, if you’re unable to find the candy eyes in your area, you can easily use milk chocolate chips for the eyes instead. These chocolate chips will still look like eyes and will taste great too. You can also use black icing.
- Powdered Sugar – Another fun idea is to use a powdered sugar shaker and sprinkle powdered sugar over the top of the twinkie instead of melting chocolate.
- Flavors of Twinkies – Feel free to use different flavors of twinkies to make this fun Halloween Treat.
How to Make Twinkies Look Like Ghosts
Step 1 – First, melt several almond bark rectangles in a double broiler, until the almond bark is completely melted. Stir melted chocolate all together until it is smooth.
Step 2 – Next, unwrap all of your twinkies.
Step 3 – Then, coat your twinkies with the almond bark. I found that the easiest way to do this was to use a cake spatula. Place the chocolate covered twinkies on parchment paper or wax paper to set up.
Step 4 – After the twinkies are covered in almond bark, add two candy eyes. Lastly, allow to cool (the almond bark will harden as it sets)
Expert Tips
- Melt Chocolate – We melted the chocolate in a double broiler, but you can also melt in the microwave. Just make sure to not burn the chocolate when melting.
- Coating Twinkies – Insert the twinkies into the melted chocolate or spread the chocolate over the twinkies with a spatula.
- Adding the Eyes – Add the candy eyes right after dipping into the chocolate so that the eyes will set.
