Expert Tips
- Cutting Meat – To make a classic carne asada taco the meat needs to be cut in small pieces. Place the meat on a cutting board, with the sharp knife cut the steak into strips. Then cut those strips in smaller pieces. This allows the meat to cook quickly for these delicious tacos.
- Prepare Skillet – We like using a cast iron skillet to cook this meat, but any skillet would work. We recommend preheating the skillet with the oil to create a delicious texture.

Frequently Asked Questions
When we make Carne Asada Tacos we like to use beef that can easily be cut in thin, bite size pieces. We recommend using skirt steak or flank steak.
We like using two tortillas so that if any meat falls out, you can use the other tortilla to eat the leftovers. It is also good to layer the tortillas because of how juicy the steak is and it may cause your tortilla to tear.
Yes, feel free to use the seasoning or marinade before cooking meat.
Storing and Reheating Instructions
- Storing – Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The leftovers will last about 3-4 days and are even better the next day.
- Freezing – If you have a lot of meat leftovers, we recommend freezing it. Store in a freezer safe container and it will last about 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight when ready to serve.
- Reheating – Reheat the leftovers in the microwave or in the oven depending on how much you have left. You can also reheat in a cast iron skillet on the stove top if you prefer.

Yes, skirt steak will work great in this recipe.
That sounds perfect!
Yum – That sounds delicious!
Love hearing this – Thank you for sharing!
My whole family loved this recipe. We normally stick to chicken or hamburger for tacos, but so glad I stumbled across this one & gave steak a try!
It sounds terrific. I need to give it a try.
I’ve made these & they were delicious. I’m planning on making extra next time so I can freeze individual portions of the filling to be used with the extra flour tortillas we always seem to have.
These look really good and my family loves to have Mexican street corn with any kind of taco. And we can’t forget the chips and guacamole!
I saw these today & had my daughter go pick up some meat. She got flank steak because it was on sale. We threw these together before her afternoon meeting plus she took extra home for dinner, but called after her meeting she said she ended up eating them during her meeting without realizing it. So I told her to come by & get some more because I had plenty. They were so good.
Love recipe. Easy to make. Family all enjoyed
I have made these with my daughter, we both love them! We usually have beans and rice on the side but her husband just has chips on the side. yum!
Yum. Looking forward to serving with rice & beans
Can’t wait to try these! Grill some corn and sprinkle with Trader Joe’s chili lime seasoning – yum!
Good, but I prefer less cilantro. Some chopped tomatoes and a sprinkle of cheese added really elevates flavor.
This looks delicious! I will be using this recipe on my brother he loves street tacos.
I think I’ll try it just like it is. Maybe do refried beans on the side.
These are delicious the way they are. My family all prefer flour tortillas and they work as well. So good!
This looks like a wonderful and easy dinner tò fix. Will be trying it this weekend. I would like to add, as a side, baked broccoli that I had for the first time on Sunday. It was flavorful and so CRUNCHY!!!
This Taco recipe is so delicious I’m sure to make it again soon. I shared it with my daughter and sister-in-law and they just loved how easy it was along with being delicious. 5 stars for sure.
I made this exactly as your recipe said except I cut back on the cilantro. Not a big fan of that and it was very good.
I will definitely be making it again. Thank you for all of your great recipes.
I haven’t tried this for my daughter’s family but I’ve saved it so I could later. The love Mexican dishes and tacos so this is right up there alley. I love your recipes they are simply and affordable. Thank you for posting this.

Looks delicious! I haven’t tried this recipe yet but for me only, I would leave the cilantro off as I don’t care for it.
The recipe sounds wonderful! I might add a little guacamole to it too. We usually have refried beans and fiesta corn as sides when we have tacos
I’ve made this recipe & it was delicious. I plan to make it again soon, but this time plan on making extra to freeze in individual portions for the extra flour tortillas we always seem to have extra of.
I made this tonight and it was delicious, my whole family loved it. Definitely a keeper.

I am definitely going to try this recipe because we love tacos. I will leave out the limes and add sour cream to the recipe. My husband and son likes sour cream on their tacos. Thanks for all the menus and recipes. It helps to have new ideas for dinner.
I am not sure if my original comment appeared. I made these for us on Mother’s Day as we had to get together on Saturday to celebrate with family. They were a big hit for my husband and me. I made the Mexican Sweet Corn as a side. I would not change anything in the recipe.
I think I would use chicken in this recipe!
It looks delicious. I would have to leave the cilantro out because I am the only one who will eat it. Hmmm, maybe I can “accidentally” add cilantro so that I won’t have to share. 🙂
Looks delicious ! Gonna try it this week! Love these low cost meals!
Always a hit!! Tender and delicious every time! Go the extra step and make the Pico de Gallo. It’s excellent too!
I am going to try these because we love tacos and I am always looking for new recipes. I would leave off the limes and add some sour cream because my husband and son love sour cream on tacos. Thanks for all the recipes you share.
We had this recipe and it is so wonderful! I like to add sliced avocado to the side with it. We ate it with Mexican corn and Spanish rice and next time I want to make it with your Cilantro Lime Rice! These are becoming a every other week addition to our menu as all three of us enjoyed these Street Tacos! Make it….. you won’t regret it!
Haven’t tried it yet but it looks amazing! Looking forward to it!
So easy to make and it tastes great.
This one is a keeper!!
Me and my husband loved this, my three year old wouldn’t eat it he poured meat out a d ate a tortilla and tge rice I served on the side. I liked the simplicity and quickness of these and I had just enough meat for my lunch. The only thing I changed was using a Cajun seasoning and dropping the lime tge second time I made.
This looks delicious! I would use this recipe with my Zero Net Carb Tortillas, for a low carb meal! Can’t wait to try it!!!
A different spin on the same old taco and it was fantastic. I did omit the cilantro and made corn and the lime rice you linked out to. Thank you for the recipe! I use your site often for meal ideas.
These tacos sound yummy! ?? Can’t wait to give them a try!
Needs taco seasoning would also add cheese.id use flour not corn.is there something else beside limes
This looks amazing and simple enough that even I can make it. Looking forward to trying it!
My husband would die for these. Whenever I ask him dinner ideas his response is always tacos. I would make these up with a big pot of Vigo Yellow Rice. He would be one happy man.
Always looking for something simple and easy to prepare for lunch or dinner
Can’t wait to try with cilantro rice.
This is such an easy recipe to make and delicious to EAT. The entire family enjoyed it and THAT is a winner.
Anxious to try this with some taco rice or mexican rice. I like them both!
These look so good! I will definitely try these!
I have not made these yet but would alter the toppings, cilantro is such a strong flavor the kids do not like it and only one eats onion so would use lettuce and sour cream as they love sour cream. I would serve it with cheesy Mexican rice. Thank you for the recipe.
Love this recipe have been trying many recipes and this one is the is the best thank you for giving us this recipe and all the sides going with it
I have not made this yet but I probably wouldn’t use that much cilantro or lime juice(not a fan of the taste). But it sounds delicious!

Love me some street tacos??Thank you for posting this!!

Looks delicious as is. Can’t want to try it with some mexican rice, refried beans and of course some cheese sauce! 🙂
My son loves Carne Asada so going to try this recipe. Could I use skirt steak for the flank?
I would make some Mexican rice and refried beans with is .
This is such a great recipe. I made it last week. The only addition I made was to add some thinly sliced radishes to it just before eating. This is something my Mexican daughter-in-law said to do and we love it.
I haven’t made this yet, but I would serve it as part of a taco bar. Like a charcuterie bar with all the fixins surrounding the carne. I would have Mexican style, and cilantro lime rice. Along with several different salsa’s: pineapple, mild & medium regular, salsa verde and pico. Then 2 styles of beans black and refried. Adding queso:cheddar, asada, manchegoand a Mexican style mixture from the grocery store. And don’t forget the crema and onions, peppers, and tomatoes. I would probably add another meat as well. And there you have it!!! Enjoy!
Loved cooking these tacos! So simple to make and they are delicious.
Haven’t tried this yet but I will try it with chicken also. Then I would serve it with some homemade queso and salsa!
I loved this! Definitely will do again.
This recipe is so super easy and tasty! I like to make this and give my family the choice between tacos, tostadas, nachos, and burritos. I personally love to add hot sauce to this for a little different flavor and heat. This is a great meal for taco Tuesday 🙂
we love anything tacos, theses street tacos were so easy to pull together for a quick meal . we added taco rice and guacamole . yummm
I haven’t tried this but it is definitely one that will try! I will make some Queso Cheese to serve along with it. Thank you for sharing!!
These tacos look and sound delicious. I would serve them with Mexican rice and top them with salsa, cilantro and onions. Thank you for the recipe, Carrie!!
Love, love, love this recipe ! It has quickly become a mainstay in our weekly rotation of meals. We love having chips and queso to complete the meal.
Haven’t made yet, but love Mexican food and can’t wait to try. Looks delicious! ?
Looks amazing, will definitely try this!
Love the ease of this! I love anything taco related so this was already a win, and its so easy to pull together. I think you could get away with bigger corn tortillas and just use one also, but I know they aren’t ‘street tacos’ then, ha, My family loved it and was a perfect weeknight meal for the win! I added a couple saute bell peppers in a couple of them just for kicks.
I made some carne asada tostadas last night. Since I didn’t have any tortillas but it worked just as great. As a side dish I made a small pot of Puerto Rican rice. My family loved it all!
This Street Taco recipe is Delicious ? I served these with the White Cheese Queso Dip and Chips. My whole family loved the Tacos. Thank you for the recipe
I’ve actually made this recipe several times, but I don’t usually leave reviews. I like this recipe cause it’s pretty simple. I love mine with corn tortillas, a ton of onions, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. The others in the house like flour torts with a bunch of cheese. They’re non traditional. I’ve eaten plenty tacos in Mexico and I stay a little closer to traditional. I also serve them with black beans and I alternate Spanish rice and Mexican rice. It’s on my rotation for this month.
I haven’t tried this one yet but it sounds delicious! I would serve it with the fried Mexican rice also from eatingonadime.com. That rice is a staple for Mexican side dishes in our family and my youngest LOVES it!
I can’t wait to try this!! It’s been on my list! I would make it with Mexican rice, refried beans or black beans. Maybe some white queso!
This looks just like the authentic tacos that I eat locally!! I can’t wait to try!! 🙂
Great recipe, will try serving with street corn.
I would serve with a fresh salad, chips and salsa.
I’m sure it’s great. Husband doesn’t like Mexican so I go to my favorite local restaurant, Miguels
I’ve tried it with steak, will try next with chicken
Very tasty, for such little effort. I had a single leftover ribeye that I used, and the results were fantastic! Will definitely make this again, and it’s a nice alternative for those who don’t like too much heat or spice.
The tortillas taste better fried a little on the pan where the meat was made. If not enough oil left there with the meat juices, add a little more.
But use oil, not butter.
????
That’s really good but I also add radishes. Slice radishes.
It’s about time someone posted a true street taco recipe. The second I see ingredients like soy sauce, I know it’s no good. Thank you very much for posting!
Easy and delish. Was a hit with my son and wife. I made the homemade green salsa verda too and we all enjoyed it.
Thank you so much!
Absolutely fantastic! We have a renowned taco stand near us and want to attempt to create 1/100th of the quality their tacos — I think we are getting there with this recipe!
So glad that everyone enjoys it! It’s a family favorite in my house too.
This recipe has become a staple in our home! I have some extremely picky eaters, and they ALL love this which is a miracle. There is no other meal that the entire family loves! Making it tonight, and I can’t wait!
Each serving is approximately 2-3 tacos based on how much of the steak you put in each one.
How many taco’s are considered 1 serving? This info isn’t given in the nutritional listing. Thank you
Thank you so much!
The best recipe ever thank you so much.
Yes, this is for 1 taco as we made 8 with the recipe.
The nutrition information says it’s 505 calories per serving. Is 1 serving size 1 taco?
Yes, you can freeze the meat after it’s cooked. Thanks.
I have not tried these yet, but definitely will be.
My question is. Has anyone froze the cooked meat after? There’s only two of us and I normally freeze our leftovers. (Seal a meal). Some meats do well but not all.
Thank you
Deirdre
This is the perfect recipe for taco Tuesday! It is so so super simple to make and it tastes amazing ?
I’ve made this several times. It’s something everyone likes and it’s so yummy!
I have made these tacos for my family more times than I can count and they are always a hit. It is a family favorite and a go to recipe. It is easy to make but brings big flavor. You will not regret adding this recipe to your cooking arsenal.
This is my kids favorite! We add crema and cojita cheese! Yummy.
Awesome!
I made the Easy Street Tacos along with the Salsa Verde and it is a keeper! The family and I loved it! Even my pickiest eater who seldom eats any sauces loved the salsa verde. He even orders Sweet n Sour chicken w/o the sauce and that’s the only thing he’ll eat for Chinese take out!
Awesome – I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing!
Very great tacos!! I love our local Mexican restaurant’s tacos and I never thought I would get something so similar. I soaked the meat in a marinade of oranges, lime juice, garlic and vinegar (so as the flank steak wouldn’t have a chance of being tough) and cooked the steak over medium-high heat. Then I drained the meat of the cooked off marinade, cranked up the heat, threw it all back in, and the tacos sizzled perfectly. Thank you for an amazing recipe!! Will be using again. (And again).
Thank you for sharing and I’m glad you liked them!
These were the best tacos ever! I used skirt steak, seasoned with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder. I didn’t cook any onions with the meat, I was surprised how tender and flavorful the meat was. Perfect with onions, cilantro, lime, pico, cotija cheese, and salsa verde. Will definitely be making these again! So delicious!
I would try 4 to 5 hours on low and see how that works out for you.
how long do you cook this in a crock pot?
