What is cube steak?
This is a type of beef that has been pounded with a meat tenderizer. It is normally top sirloin or top round.
Will steak get tender in crock pot?
Yes! The cube steak is incredibly tender from being slow cooked all day. It is actually my favorite way to cook this type of meat.
The meat is so tender that you can cut it with a fork.
Ingredients:
- Cube Steak
- Onion soup mix (try Homemade Onion Soup Mix)
- cream of mushroom soup
- beef broth
- egg noodles
- water
- Cornstarch
How to make Crock pot Cube Steak:
First, place the cube steak in the crock pot. I love the Ninja cooking system because you can brown the meat right in the crock pot for recipes that call for that.
Add the onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup and beef broth over the meat.
Second, just let the slow cooker do the work. I prefer to cook it on low for 6 to 8 hours. However, you can cook it on high if you don’t have much time for 3 to 4 hours.
Finally, about an hour before you plan to serve, combine the water and cornstarch in a small bowl. Once this is mixed together really good, pour into the crock pot on the high setting. It will thicken the sauce and be perfect when it is time to eat.

- For a change, try substituting the cream of mushroom with cream of celery. It changes the flavor and is a nice change if you want to try something new.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying that feature. Thank you for sharing!
I made this tonight! Holy smokes. It’s Salisbury steak!!! So much better than the overly processed garbage. My 10-year-old likes it and he is picky!!!
Absolutely love the idea that you break down these recipes for 1,2,3 people. I really love ?? that for my elderly mom and l?
This is absolutely delicious! When I told my husband we were having cube steak, he scowled! After dinner, he said, make it again! The meat is so tender and gravy is yummy! Thank you so much!
Linda
I would use 1 teaspoon of garlic powder or 2 teaspoons of minced garlic instead. The flavor won’t be as strong as with the onion soup mix but it will still taste amazing!
Sorry for the confusion, I used 1 package so just 1 ounce for this recipe. I have updated the recipe. Thank you.
I love cube steaks, thanks for sharing, I always brown mine after putting flour on them 1st and onion then add to the crock pot
Is there a substitute for the dry onion mix have some some that hates onions
Very simple & delicious! I’ve always cooked my cube steak the same way I learned 50+ years ago, flour & brown the meat, make homemade brown gravy & cooked in a cast iron skillet. This was much less work, strain on my back & legs & easier. Learning to love the crockpot.
Super easy & delicious! Had with jazzed up instant mashed pot & green beans with bacon, butter & French onion soup mix. ?
I brown my steak before placing in the crock pot and then there isn’t any need to use cornstarch.
Can’t wait to try it. It looks delicious
I’m using elk cube steaks & onion and mushroom soup mix, it turns out really well.
looks delicious
My husband I love this recipe. We don’t add a thickener though, it is thick enough and we like to cook it longer and it’s just so tender. We’re actually having it again tomorrow with mashed potatoes. Yummm
We love this too. Thank you for commenting.
My family absolutely loves this!!!! It is tender and full of flavor.
My husband and I love this recipe. I did change it just a bit. We put the cream of mushroom soup, cup of beef broth and onion soup mix in the crock pot, we don’t add cornstarch because the gravy is thick enough without it. My husband LOVES it with mashed potatoes and green beans. The Texas Longhorns are playing today so that’s in our crock pot to eat after the game. Thank you.
You list package of onion soup as 2 oz., but a box contains 2 1 oz. envelopes, and you use only 1 envelope in the video.
I prefer to cook beef on low in the slow cooker, but that is just a personal preference.
It is easy but the meat wasnโt tender at all after cooking on high for 4 hours so really disappointed.
You should still have plenty of liquid to make a gravy for the mashed potatoes.
Will the liquids change much is I don’t add the noodles? I like to serve it on mashed potatoes..
Yummy!!!
I’m so glad you loved it.
So easy and delicious. My teens loved it!
Amazing g flavor and so easy!!!
Was delicious.. No trouble at all..Will definitely be making again.. WOOHOO!!
Delicious and flavorful. My family enjoyed it.
Currently have this cooking in the crockpot right now and Iโm excited! I hope it taste as good as it looks!
I am making this tonight! Can not wait for that deliciousness on my plate! I am going to use potatoes rather than the egg noodles, and my question is when do you think I should add the potatoes? I have redskin potatoes which tend to be a longer cook than other varieties.
Excellent recipe for cube steaks!! Started mine from frozen, and did not have 2 cans of cream of mushroom. So, I substituted with one can of cream of mushroom, and one can of cream of celery. The flavor was very, very good, and the meat was incredibly tender. Will definitely make this again!

It does not
Yes, you can use frozen. You will need to cook it longer.
Does the calorie count include the noodles? I’m trying this tomorrow evening. It sounds really good!
Can I use frozen cube steak OR does it need to be thawed?
This is a childhood favorite of mine. I will definitely be trying this crock pot recipe.
No you don’t not have to. They can stay in the crock pot
Do you take out the cube steak when you add the cornstarch?
I made it last night with celery soup and it was delicious! ?
Thank you!
I made this yesterday with some left over cube steak I had, added some venison that I pounded to make enough for the recipe, I did add onion slices and a bunch of mushrooms to it, other than that I followed the recipe and it came out pretty tasty, I put it in my crockpot for 8 hrs on low, I’ll make this again
I tried this and it was very delicious
loved it, & so did my picky husband!!! it had different flavors for us and will make again.
My family loved this recipe! The only negative comment came from my husband who said he wasnโt crazy about the texture of the meat but loved the taste. This will be on our meal rotation from now on!!
I have some cube steak in the freezer. Can I make this using frozen cube steak or do you recommend thawing in fridge overnight? This recipe has me drooling, looks delicious!!
