Variations Ideas

  • Change Meat – Feel free to use ground turkey instead of ground beef. You can also make with half turkey and half beef if you prefer. We have even used ground chicken for a delicious variation.
  • Cheese – This recipe can be made with different types of cheeses. You can even dice up Velveeta cheese if you prefer.
  • Broth – We used beef broth in this recipe, but you can also use chicken broth if that is all you have. Chicken stock or beef stock is also a good variation.
  • Noodle Substitute – Feel free to use different types of noodles. We recommend using a small shell noodle such as ditalini or mini farfalle noodle.
  • Seasoning – You can easily add in different seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper and more.
  • Vegetables – You can easily add in veggies to add flavor and texture to cheeseburger macaroni such as corn, tomatoes, and bell peppers.
  • Cream Cheese – For a creamier texture, dice up cream cheese and allow it to melt into the cheeseburger mixture in the slow cooker.

Step 2 – Add in ground beef, onion, seasonings, Worcestershire sauce and broth to the slow cooker. Stir to combine.

Adding the macaroni noodles to the slow cooker

Step 3 – 15 minutes before serving stir in the macaroni noodles. It will look very watery but don’t worry the pasta will soak it up. Cover and cook for 15 minutes until the desired tenderness is reached.

Expert Tips

  • Sausage – Cook ground beef in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker. Recommend removing any excess grease from the sausage before combining with the other ingredients.
  • Pasta – There is no need to cook the pasta before adding to the slow cooker. The pasta will cook in the beef broth in the crockpot.
  • Cheese – We recommend shredding your cheese yourself from hunk cheese. It melts and taste better than pre-shredded cheese.
  • Prepare Slow Cooker – To easily serve the casserole, you can butter the slow cooker or spray with cooking spray.

Recipe Notes

Buy block cheddar cheese and then hand shred it. It will melt more evenly. You can use any kind of cheese, but I love sharp cheddar cheese in this recipe.
Serve with steamed broccoli for a complete dinner.

Sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing!

  2. Isabelle says:

I always add mustard (yellow or Dijon) and dill (fresh or dry) to the meat when browning. If you like ketchup, you could add it then, also. I’m not a fan, though. Also, toasted sesame seeds are a good addition.

  3. Carrie Barnard says:

If you choose not to brown the ground beef, I recommend breaking up the beef and skimming any grease or fat from the sauce in the crock pot before adding the noodles to the crock pot.

  4. Lauren says:

What if I donโ€™t brown the beef before hand and just add to crock pot raw?
