- Change Meat – Feel free to use ground turkey instead of ground beef. You can also make with half turkey and half beef if you prefer. We have even used ground chicken for a delicious variation.
- Cheese – This recipe can be made with different types of cheeses. You can even dice up Velveeta cheese if you prefer.
- Broth – We used beef broth in this recipe, but you can also use chicken broth if that is all you have. Chicken stock or beef stock is also a good variation.

How to Make Cheeseburger Macaroni in the Crockpot
Step 1 – In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until it is brown. Drain the excessive grease before pouring into the slow cooker.
Step 2 – Add in ground beef, onion, seasonings, Worcestershire sauce and broth to the slow cooker. Stir to combine.
Step 3 – 15 minutes before serving stir in the macaroni noodles. It will look very watery but don’t worry the pasta will soak it up. Cover and cook for 15 minutes until the desired tenderness is reached.
Step 4 – Stir in shredded cheese until melted for a delicious cheeseburger casserole.
Expert Tips
- Sausage – Cook ground beef in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker. Recommend removing any excess grease from the sausage before combining with the other ingredients.
- Pasta – There is no need to cook the pasta before adding to the slow cooker. The pasta will cook in the beef broth in the crockpot.
- Cheese – We recommend shredding your cheese yourself from hunk cheese. It melts and taste better than pre-shredded cheese.
- Prepare Slow Cooker – To easily serve the casserole, you can butter the slow cooker or spray with cooking spray.

Sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing!
I always add mustard (yellow or Dijon) and dill (fresh or dry) to the meat when browning. If you like ketchup, you could add it then, also. I’m not a fan, though. Also, toasted sesame seeds are a good addition.
If you choose not to brown the ground beef, I recommend breaking up the beef and skimming any grease or fat from the sauce in the crock pot before adding the noodles to the crock pot.
What if I donโt brown the beef before hand and just add to crock pot raw?
It can take 15-20 minutes to cook pasta depending on your slow cooker.

Can you freeze this? Looking for meals for my college son!
Brandy, try BBQ sauce instead but more than 3T. I also add a can of petite diced tomatoes because I like tomatoes on my burger.
Yes I would drain the beef.
