Step by Step Instructions:

Place water and yeast in bowl and mix together

Step 1 – First, get out your stand mixer. Add the ¼ cup warm water and the instant yeast stand mixer fitted with hook attachment.  Mix them together and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes . The yeast needs to completely dissolve.

Add in milk, butter, sugar, eggs, and salt to yeast mixture

Step 2 – Second, add the warm milk, butter, sugar, eggs and salt to the yeast mixture in the mixing bowl of stand mixer. Mix everything together slightly and use the dough hook. This will take about 1 minute.

Gradually add in flour to the yeast mixture

Step 3 – Next, gradually add the flour to the bowl. It is best to do this 1 cup at a time and mix after each addition until the mixture forms a soft dough.

Place the dough in a bowl and covered with plastic wrap

Step 4 – Once combined, put the dough in a large bowl. Make sure the bowl is coated in oil before putting the dough inside.

Allow dough to double in size in a bowl

Step 5 – Cover with either plastic wrap or a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rise. The dough will need about 1 to 2 hours to rise in a warm area and should double in size. Leave the bowl on the counter to rise.

Roll the dough out on a floured surface

Step 6 – After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface. Roll the dough until it is about 1/2” thick.

Cut dough into square pieces and place on a baking sheet

Step 7 – Next, cut the dough into rectangle pieces. You want to end up with about 20 to 24 square pieces. I like to use a pizza cutter to cut the squares. It is important for the classic Texas roadhouse square shape.

Baked rolls on a baking sheet brushed with melted butter

Step 8 – While you are waiting on the rolls to double in size, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Once the oven is ready, bake the rolls for 12 to 15 minutes or until the rolls are a light golden brown on top. Use the remaining melted butter to spread on top of the rolls.

Serve with Texas Roadhouse Cinnamon Butter Recipe.

Recipe Tips:

  • Yeast – Make sure that your yeast is not expired. Ensure that you use warm water and not hot water as hot water will kill the yeast for this recipe.
  • Measuring Flour – When measuring your flour, scoop or shift the flour into the measuring cup.  Do not scoop the cup into the flour as this might cause too much flour in this bread recipe.
  • Preparing Baking Sheet – You will need 2 baking sheets. Spray with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper, and put the dough squares on the baking sheets spacing them 1” apart.

Instructions

  • In a stand up mixer, combine the warm water and the yeast.  Let is sit for 10-15 minutes until the yeast dissolves.
  • Then add the milk, 4 Tbsp of butter, sugar, eggs and salt to the stand up mixer. Lightly mix everything together using the dough hook of your mixer for approximately1 minute.
  • Then gradually add in the flour to the bowl, 1 cup at a time mixing after each addition until it forms a soft dough. You may not need all the flour depending on your environment.  You know it’ll be ready as the dough will come clean from the edges of the bowl when mixed.
  • Then place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with either plastic wrap or a damp cloth and let the dough rise for approximately 1-2 hours until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Then punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface until the dough is approximately 1/2” thick.
  • Cut the dough into 20-24 square pieces.  I find that using a pizza cutter works best for this.
  • Spray 2 baking sheets with non stick cooking spray and place the dough squares on the baking sheets at least 1” apart.  Cover the rolls and let them rise for approximately 30 minutes until they double in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Then bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes until the rolls are light golden brown.
  • Top with the remaining melted butter.  Let cool and then enjoy!
