Christmas Chex mix goes by different names. Rather you call it Christmas Chex Mix or Christmas Crack mix it is still the perfect no-bake, easy recipe.

Especially during the holidays, I stock up on these ingredients because it seems that either myself or my kids are invited to a last minute holiday party. This dessert recipe is easy to mix up and everyone loves it. Add it to Christmas Charcuterie Board for a crowd pleasing treat.

What is Christmas Chex Mix?

It is a sweet and salty snack mix that is usually made up of Chex Cereal, pretzels, cheerios and M&M’s that is mixed with white chocolate. It is the perfect combination and we love to make a big batch and snack on all December long.

These simple 5 ingredients make this snack mix so easy to make and no need to add any corn syrup.

5 Simple Ingredients

  • Chex Cereal – You can use a mixture of both rice chex, wheat chex, or corn chex cereal.
  • Cheerios – We usually use the plain Cheerios. But the honey Cheerios are good as well.
  • Pretzels – Any type of pretzels will work in this recipe. We have used twists, snaps or sticks.
  • Christmas M&M’s – Using the Christmas M&M’s makes them so festive. You can use the mini or the regular size.
  • White chocolate – I used Ghirardelli wafers. You can also use vanilla candy coating almond bark or white chocolate chips.

Variation Ideas

There are so many variations to this mix.

  • Change M&M’s – You can change the color of M&M’s for different holidays – Red & Pink for Valentine’s Day, Pastel for Easter, Orange and Black for Halloween. You can even use peanut M&M’s for an extra crunch and peanut butter flavor.
  • Add in Nuts – Occasionally we will add in some peanuts, pecans cashews, walnuts or slice almonds to increase the salty flavor.
  • Christmas Sprinkles – Add in some holiday sprinkles to bring out the festive color.
  • Marshmallows – Mini marshmallows are fun to add as well.
  • Change Cereal – You can even change the cereal. Some ideas are Golden Graham cereal, Life Cereal or Lucky Charms.
  • Mini Pretzel Twists – Add in mini pretzels twists for an extract crunch and salty flavor to this chex mix.

How to Make Christmas Chex Mix

Step 1 – In a large bowl, combine the Chex, Cheerios, pretzels and M&M’s. Mix cereal with the other ingredients until combined.

Step 2 – Place the white chocolate or vanilla almond bark in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute. Stir and then melt in 30 second increments (stirring in between). Do not overcook or it will burn.

Step 3 – Next pour the melted chocolate over the chex mix and toss until well coated.

Step 4 – Then pour the chex onto a rimmed baking sheet lined with a piece of wax or parchment paper and allow to set until hardened and cool completely (at least 15 minutes).

Recipe Tips

  • Melting Chocolate – Melt chocolate in the microwave in 30 second intervals to ensure that the chocolate does not burn. Feel free to also melt chocolate in a double boiler on the stovetop until chocolate is melted.
  • Coating Cereal Mixture – We like to mix the melted chocolate and the cereal mixture in a bowl to ensure that everything is fully coated.
  • Allow Mixture to Harden – It is important to spread the chex mix mixture to spread out on a cookie sheet or parchment paper so that the mixture hardens.

How to Store Leftover Christmas Chex Mix

Store your Chex Mix in an airtight container or plastic bag after it has cooled and hardened. It will last about 3-5 days at room temperature.
