This chocolate cake is one my favorite dessert recipe. It is made easily with very little prep time and the ingredients are simple. If you are a baker, you probably already have all the ingredients.

Ingredients

Ingredients - Mayonnaise, cocoa powder, water, flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, vanilla extract, cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream
  • Mayonnaise – We recommend using full fat mayonnaise
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – Use quality cocoa powder for rich chocolate flavor 
  • Cream Cheese – We recommend using softened cream for the best texture
  • Butter – We used softened unsalted butter

How to Make Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake

  • Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9×13 baking pan.

Step 2 – Whisk together all the cake ingredients in a large bowl until the ingredients are combined.

Step 3 – Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before topping with the frosting on a wire rack.

Step 4 – Beat the butter and room temperature cream cheese on medium speed with a hand held mixer or stand up mixer until the butter is smooth and creamy (2-3 minutes).

Step 5 – Add in the confectioner’s sugar, cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of the heavy cream, vanilla extract and salt.  Mix on low speed until fully combined (approximately 1 minute).  Check the frosting consistency and add more heavy cream if needed. 

  • Step 6 – Spoon the chocolate frosting on the cooled cake then spread on the layers.
  • Step 7 – Then the cake is ready to slice, serve and enjoy! 

Expert Tips

  • Baking Pan – Before pouring the cake batter into the baking dish, make sure to spray with cooking spray. This helps to easily serve the cake and makes a cleanup a breeze.
  • Baking Time – Cooking time will vary will baking the chocolate cake. We recommend using a toothpick to ensure that the cake is fully baked. Insert the toothpick in the center of the cake and if it comes out clean then the cake is finished baking.
  • Combining ingredients – When combining the cake mix ingredients until combined. Make sure to not over mix the batter. Mix the ingredients with an electric mixer or with spatula.
