Ingredients - Flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, bananas, butter, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, chocolate chips
  • All Purpose Flour – You can substitute the flour with Gluten-Free Almond Flour
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – Feel free to use Dutch Process Cocoa if you prefer
  • Bananas – Make sure to use ripe bananas
  • Butter– We used unsalted butter that is melted and slightly cooled
  • Eggs – We like using room temperature eggs
  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips – Substitute with Dark Chocolate Chips

How to Make Chocolate Banana Bread

  • Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and  spray a 5×9 loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2 – In a medium size bowl, whisk together the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.  Set aside.

Step 3 – Peel the bananas and mash them with a fork in a large bowl.

Step 4 – Stir in melted butter, eggs, sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 5 – Then gently stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.  Be careful not to over mix the batter. Gently stir in approximately ¾ cup of the chocolate chips.

Step 6 – Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.

Step 7 – Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.

  • Step 8 Bake for 50-65 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean. 
  • Step 9 – Let the bread cool on a wire rack for 15- 20 minutes in the pan. 
  • Step 10 – Carefully remove the bread from the pan and let it cook completely on the wire rack. 
  • Step 11 – Then the bread is ready to slice, serve and enjoy!

  • Baking Time – Make sure to not put the toothpick into a melted chocolate chip when testing the bread for doneness. Baking time will vary depending on your oven and the type of pan that you use.
  • Ripe Bananas – When making this banana bread recipe they need to ripe bananas. The more ripe the bananas are the better the banana bread will taste.
