- Toppings – We love making home glaze to top these easy cake mix donuts. But you can use store bought frosting with rainbow sprinkles. We have even topped with a delicious cinnamon sugar mixture.
Step by Step Instructions
- Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a donut pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
Step 2 – Mix together the cake mix, egg, vegetable and milk with a electric mixer or stand up mixer until well combined. Mix in a large mixing bowl. Check out The 4 Best Affordable Stand Mixers of 2024 if you are needing a new one.
Step 3 – Pour the mixture evenly into the donut pan filling each one about halfway full. I find that it’s easiest to use a piping bag to fill the donut pan or place the batter in a large ziplock bag and cut the corner off the bag to pipe the batter into the pan.
Step 3 – Then bake for 10-13 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donuts comes out clean and golden brown. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes and then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 4 – Combine the glaze ingredients then Dip half the cooled doughnuts in the vanilla glaze and dip the other half of the donuts in the chocolate glaze covering about half of the donuts. Then top with the sprinkles at this time. Cool donuts and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Prepare Donut Pan – Make sure to spray the donut pan with cooking spray. This helps with cleanup and to easily remove the donut from the pan.
- Cool Donuts – Before frosting the cake donuts, make sure to allow the donuts to cool on a cooling rack.
- Cooking Time – Baking the donuts will vary depending on your oven and the size of donuts that you make. Make sure to use a toothpick to ensure that the donuts are fully cooked.
