Why We Love This Bruschetta Recipe

Summertime is the perfect time to serve Bruschetta during the summer months because the tomatoes taste the best! This light and refreshing dish can be served for any occasion but we love to serve while grilling out and hanging out by the pool.

If you are looking for an easy, impressive recipe this is the one to make. It is the perfect finger food to enjoy in one or two bites.

Ingredients

Two baguettes on a wooden cutting board, surrounded by a small pitcher, bowls of olive oil, a dish with tomatoes and basil, and a bowl of salt. The setting is on a white surface.
  • Baguette – We used French Bread. We usually get a loaf at our local bakery
  • Roma Tomatoes – This is a great dish to serve during the summertime because the Roma plum tomatoes taste the best. During the other seasons, we use cherry tomatoes
  • Salt – Use Pink Salt or Kosher Salt
  • Fresh Basil Leaves – You can easily grab a bunch from the grocery store
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – This gives the bread rich flavor and a crispy crust
  • Balsamic Glaze – Use a quality balsamic for the best tangy flavor

How to Make Bruschetta

A baking sheet with sliced bread pieces topped with olive oil, arranged neatly. A brush rests on the sheet, and a small bowl of olive oil is nearby. A striped towel is partially visible on the left side.

Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the baguette on the diagonal into 24 slices that are approximately ½ inch thick.  Place them on the baking sheet and brush the tops with 3 tablespoons of the olive oil. Bake for 4-6 minutes to toast bread.

A glass bowl filled with chopped tomatoes, green herbs, and a sprinkle of salt, with a wooden spoon inside. The bowl is on a white surface next to a white and blue striped cloth.

Step 2 – Dice the tomatoes into small pieces and place them in a medium mixing bowl.  Stir in the salt, fresh basil and remaining olive oil. Toss until combined.  Drain off any excess liquid from the tomatoes. Add in mince garlic clove for even more flavor.

Expert Tips

  • Baking Sheet – For easy cleanup, we recommend to lining the baking sheet with parchment paper. This also helps to serve the bruschetta.
  • Slicing Bread – Slice the bread about the same size with a sharp knife on a cutting board.
  • Ripe TomatoesFor the best flavor, we like to use tomatoes that are ripe.
  • Juicy Mixture – If the tomato mixture has a lot of juice, then you may need to use a slotted spoon to add the mixture to the toasted bread.
