Grilled Pork Kabobs

We eat a lot of chicken and I wanted to switch things up. I decided to make Grilled Pork Kabobs for dinner and it was a huge hit.

First you marinate the pork and vegetables. Then alternate the pieces on skewers. It is an easy and fun way to serve dinner.

The kabobs are grilled perfectly and have the best flavor from the grill and seasoning. The veggies also make it an effortless way to stretch the meat.

Ingredients for Grilled pork kabobs.

Ingredients:

For the Kabobs:

  • Pork Tenderloin
  • Zucchinis
  • Red Onion
  • Large Red Bell Peppers

Marinade:

  • Italian Seasoning
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Olive Oil
  • Lemon, juiced

How to cook pork kabobs on the grill:

  • Step 1. Combine the marinade ingredients. Whisk together the pork kabob marinade ingredients in a medium size bowl. I like to add extra black pepper but that is based on preference.
  • Step 2. Cut the pork. Then cut the pork into approximately 2 inch size pieces and place it in the bowl with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 4 hours to let the pieces of pork marinate.

  • Step 3. Prepare the vegetables. While the pork is marinading, cut the red onion and bell peppers into 2 inch pieces and slice the zucchinis into 1 inch slices.
  • Step 4. Soak the skewers. Also, soak the wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent them from burning while grilling.

  • Step 5. Make the skewers. Skewer the marinaded pork and vegetables onto the wooden skewers. Then preheat a grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees F).

  • Step 6. Grill the kabobs until cooked through. Place the kabobs on the hot grill and cook for approximately 6-8 minutes. The pork needs to reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F and the vegetables should be tender.

Make sure to turn the kabobs approximately every 2 minutes to prevent them from burning.

  • Step 7. Serve and enjoy. Carefully remove from the grill and serve immediately.

How long to grill pork kabobs:

Pork does not take long at all to cook. The kabobs will take only 6 to 8 minutes on the grill.

You can use a meat thermometer to ensure the pork is fully cooked. The internal temperature needs to be 145 degrees.

How long to marinade pork kabobs:

Marinate for at least an hour in the refrigerator but up to 4 hours is recommended. This will make the meat so tender and flavorful.

What pork cut is best for kabobs?

Pork loin is a great option and what we used to make the kabobs. Other cuts of meat to try include pork shoulder. You can use either the picnic roast portion or the Boston Butt portion of the shoulder.

The pork shoulder is a popular option because it is inexpensive and flavorful. This cut of meat is heavily marbled so it won’t dry out while cooking.

How to bake pork kabobs:

  • Follow the instructions as normal to make the kabobs.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • Place the skewers on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the pork has reached 165 internal temperature. Turn the skewers a couple of times while baking.
  • Broil the skewers for a few minutes to get that crisp finish similar to being on the grill. Just watch it carefully and dont leave it long as it can quickly burn under the broiler. Remove the pork skewers and serve.

What to serve with grilled pork kabobs:

I love to make the entire meal on the grill. It keeps the kitchen clean and cool. Plus, we just all enjoy grilling and hanging out together.

Pork Kabobs go with so many different things but these are a few of our favorites to serve.

Tips for Grilled Pork Kabobs:

  • Use a Meat thermometer. We use an instant read meat thermometer to ensure that the pork is cooked to the correct temperature. Pork should have an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
  • Don’t overcook the meat. Pork does not take long to cook so be careful that you don’t overcook it. It will become tough.
  • Allow the meat to rest. Once you remove the skewers from the grill, give it a few minutes to rest. This will allow the meat to lock in the juices that add so much flavor instead of escaping when cut.
  • Skewers. If you do not want to soak wooden skewers, you can use metal skewers instead in grilling recipes. They are inexpensive to purchase, and you can reuse them. Just be careful handling them as they will be hot.
  • Tongs. Use tongs when flipping the kabobs or carefully roll them on the grill when turning them. Be very careful turning them so you don’t burn yourself.
  • Room temperature meat. Allow the pork to come to room temperature about 30 minutes before grilling.

Variations:

  • Sweet and Savory. Combine Soy sauce and brown sugar to taste. This creates a delicious sweet and savory marinade for the skewers.
  • Barbecue Sauce. Use your favorite brand or try making homemade Barbecue Sauce.
  • Buffalo Sauce. Spice things up and use buffalo sauce on the pork and veggies.
  • Veggies. Try other vegetables on the skewers. We also like squash and mushrooms.
