Variations

  • Oreo Bars Marshmallow– Add mini marshmallows to the bars.
  • Chocolate Chips – Use white chocolate chips or a combination of white and milk chocolate chips. Try peanut butter morsels for the best peanut butter and chocolate combination.
  • Add Coconut – Try a chocolate coconut mixture if you like coconut.
  • Oreo Cookies – Use different Oreo flavors- peanut butter, birthday cake or whatever you like. They even have seasonal Oreo Cookies.
  • Chopped Nuts – Add in chopped pecans, walnuts or slice almond for a delicious addition. We have even chopped up leftover candy and added on top to these layer bars.

Step by Step Instructions:

  • Step 1 – Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place 5 tablespoons of butter in an oven safe casserole dish or baking pan. I used a 9×13 dish for a thinner bar.
Melting butter in a baking dish

Step 2 – Place the dish with butter in the oven just until butter is melted. Remove dish from oven. You can also use cooking spray.

Crush Oreos in a food processor

Step 3 – Take 2 sleeves of the oreos (I used double stuffed so that was about 20 cookies for me) and crush them. I used a food processor because I wanted the oreo crumbs fine like graham cracker crumbs. This is the crust of your bars.

Pressing Oreo Crumbs in the bottom baking dish

Step 4 – Sprinkle the oreo crumbs evenly over the melted butter and press until you have one fairly even layer.

Step 5 – Sprinkle chocolate and butterscotch chips over oreo crumb layer. DO NOT mix.

Step 6 – Pour sweetened condensed milk over everything in the pan.

Step 7 – Crush about 5-6 more oreos. You can do this by hand. If you do this in the food processor, just pulse it. You don’t want crumbs this time, you’re aiming for small chunks.

  • Step 8 – Sprinkle chunks of oreos and oreo crumbs evenly over the bars.
  • Step 9 – Bake at 325 F for about 20 minutes. You know its done when the edges are a tad brown and the rest will be nice and bubbly.
  • Step 10 – Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely at least 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Cut into bars. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips:

  • Prepare Baking Dish – To easily remove the magic bars from baking pan, line with parchment paper.
  • Cool Before Slicing – Before slicing the magic bars, make sure to cool completely.
