What is Juicy Lucy Burger?

The Juicy Lucy Burger originated in Minneapolis, Minnesota in Matt’s Bar. It has been told that this delicious burger was created by accident and it is now a highly requested menu item.

It is a simply a burger that has cooked with slice cheese in the middle. The cheese gets melty and so every bite is filled with burger and cheese. We love to cook the burger on the grill but it can even be made in a cast-iron skillet.

Ingredients

Hamburger buns on a plate, with uncooked ground beef in a bowl with a plate of cheese slices and small bowls of seasoning and oil
  • Ground Beef – Traditionally made with beef, I recommend using an 80/20 blend of beef. But can be made with ground turkey or a mixture of both.
  • Garlic Powder – If you are out, check out The Best Garlic Powder Substitute
  • Onion Powder – Feel free to check out the Best Onion Powder Substitutes if you are out.
  • American Cheese – Use cheese of your choice, cut into quarters

Step 7 – Grill the burgers for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness and the cheese is melted inside. Toast buns then assemble burgers and enjoy.

Expert Tips

  • Seal Patties – Make sure you seal those patties tight around the edges. It’s all about keeping that cheese locked in and contained as it melts.
  • Prepare Grill – For best results prepare the grill by preheating and oiling the grill grates. This helps to prevent the burgers from sticking.
