Reviews of The Best Meat Slicers

1. My Top Choice Overall: Beswood Premium Electric Meat Slicer

I’ve had a home meat slicer for six years and it’s still going strong! Since the one I own is an older model, for my top pick I chose an option that’s most similar to my favorite: the Beswood Premium Electric Meat Slicer.

I love that this commercial-grade meat slicer is a workhorse thanks to its chromium-plated steel blade. You don’t have to sharpen the blade (a big pro!), and the skidproof rubber feet and blade ring guard are great safety features.

This Beswood model is on the pricier side, but since I use my food slicer often, I think it’s definitely worth paying for a high-quality model. I love that the large blade stands up to how often I want to use it so I know I won’t have to buy a new one anytime soon.

My Tips:

I primarily use it for deli meat, like when I make this Turkey Sandwich Recipe, and it’s a huge money saver! Just make sure you clean it as soon as you are done.

The Specs:

  • Dimensions: 20 x 17 x 14.75 inches
  • Blade Material: High-carbon and chromium-plated steel
  • Blade Size: 10 inches
  • Motor Wattage: 240 watts
  • Weight: 33 pounds

The Pros:

  • Powerful motor
  • Extra-durable blade lasts a long time
  • Very stable
  • Able to slice very thinly
  • Quiet

The Cons:

  • Have to take it all apart to clean it each time
  • Too heavy to move or store easily

What Others Are Saying

Food & Wine calls the Beswood Premium Electric Meat Slicer the best splurge meat slicer. It also has a 4.7-star Amazon rating with more than 2,800 reviews.

2. Runner-Up Meat Slicer: Chef’s Choice Electric Meat Slicer

Chef's Choice Electric Meat Slicer
Credit: Amazon

This pick from Chef’s Choice is one of the most popular and best electric meat slicers. It can produce paper-thin slices of deli meats all the way up to 1-inch thick slabs, making it a super versatile option.

The carriage is tilted so it’s easy to see what you’re doing, too. I love that the blade is strong and sharp enough to work on meat that’s even frozen solid. Just note that you’ll have to completely take it apart to clean it and since the brand doesn’t state whether any of the parts are dishwasher-safe, I recommend opting for some warm water and dish soap.

The Specs:

  • Dimensions: 15.5 x 10.4 x 11 inches
  • Blade Material: Stainless Steel
  • Blade Size: 7 inches
  • Motor Wattage: 120
  • Weight: 10.61 pounds

The Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Safety lock
  • Easy to clean

The Cons:

  • Some users report fuses blowing, but they are replaceable
  • The feet can slide a bit on the counter during use
  • Only comes with a serrated blade, but you can order a smooth blade

3. Best Heavy Duty Meat Slicer: Weston Meat Slicer

Weston Meat Slicer

This Weston Meat Slicer feels as sturdy and capable as a commercial meat slicer. The 9-inch blade isn’t as large as the Beswood, but the model itself is a little bigger and more heavy-duty than other options. I like that it can handle larger cuts of meat, but it’s also easy to adjust the slicing size, ranging from super thin to more than half an inch thick.

This is a great all-around slicer that works on frozen, thawed, or cooked meat, and at an affordable price! It has a relatively high motor wattage (not quite as much as my top choice though), and it can also tackle cheese, veggies, bread, and even some fruits.

The Specs:

  • Dimensions: 17 x 10 x 12 inches
  • Blade Material: Stainless steel
  • Blade Size: 9 inches
  • Motor Wattage: 200
  • Weight: 12.47 pounds

The Pros:

  • Easy to store
  • Easy to clean
  • Quiet motor

The Cons:

  • Has a couple of plastic parts

4. Best Budget Meat Slicer: Cuisinart Kitchen Pro Food Slicer

Cuisinart is a popular, well-known appliance brand, so it’s no surprise that this model is one of the best meat slicers for home use. I’m all about saving money and I love that it’s way more affordable than other options I’ve found. It doesn’t sacrifice any features or functionality, either — it has a removable 7.5-inch serrated blade, a stainless steel removable carriage, and a slice control knob that adjusts from thin slices to thick ½-inch slices.

If you’re like me and love to serve easy, yummy meals like Turkey Melt Sandwiches, this model is perfect for occasional home use. If your family hunts and processes game, this one might not be enough for your needs, but if you are just slicing up a block of turkey from Costco, this is a great entry-level model to try.

The Specs:

  • Dimensions: 9.25 x 14.5 x 10.5 inches
  • Blade Material: Stainless steel
  • Blade Size: 7.5 inches
  • Motor Wattage: 130
  • Weight: 10.3 pounds

The Pros:

  • More affordable than other options
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to clean

The Cons:

  • Slow speed
  • Loud
  • Lower wattage
  • Doesn’t slice as thin as some other models

Other Meat Slicers I’ve Researched

Vevor Folding Meat Slicer

This electric meat slicer from Vevor is a good option if you live in an apartment or have limited storage space in your kitchen, as it can fold closed, and can also be hung on a pantry hook. However, because it’s on the smaller side, it may not be as powerful as other options on our list, and it doesn’t have a ton of reviews, either. The Vevor Folding Meat Slicer is available at Amazon for $149.99

Anescra Electric Deli Food Slicer

On the more affordable side, this deli food slicer comes with two blades and a tray to put the food on after you have sliced it. It may not be very durable, though, as it is mostly made of aluminum and plastic. Also, the instructions recommend using it for only five minutes at a time, then letting it cool down before using it again. The Anescra Electric Deli Food Slicer is available at Amazon for $119.76.

Cabela’s Commercial Grade Food Slicer

A lot of people who shop at Cabela’s are hunters or sportsmen, so this pricey commercial meat slicer might make sense. The 12-inch blade is bigger than all of the other meat slicers I looked at, so it should be able to handle anything. But it only has a 3.9-star rating on Cabela’s site, with some people saying that the guide is too far from the blade so meat squishes out and makes for inconsistent slices. The Cabela’s Commercial Grade Food Slicer is available at Cabela’s from $299.99.

LEM Mighty Bite Meat Slicer

LEM is another brand that’s popular with hunters and those who process their own game meat. It comes with two blades so you should be able to handle tall cuts of meat as well as bread and cheese. Since it’s made of aluminum and has some plastic parts, this is more a home kitchen version than a commercial-grade machine. However, some reviews say that it feels cheap and can only run for a few minutes at a time before needing to cool down. The LEM Mighty Bite Meat Slicer is available on Amazon for $219.99.

Why You Can Trust Me

Hi, I’m Carrie Barnard, and you know me as the creator of Eating on a Dime and the Lazy Day Cooking Club! I’m always focused on helping families cook and eat delicious meals on a budget. Since I prioritize wholesome, fresh comfort food for my 8 kids, I love hacks and products that can help save time and money.

I’ve been using a home meat slicer for 6 years since it helps me control the quality of the deli meat I serve without turning to smaller, pre-packaged options. To come up with my list of the best meat slicers, I thought about the features I like the most about my model. From there, I researched other top brands and models, read through customer reviews and ratings, and considered budget, size, and safety.

What to Know About Meat Slicers

What to Consider Before Buying a Meat Slicer

First, I think it’s important to figure out what you would use a meat slicer for. They can cost anywhere from around $100 to several thousand dollars, so there’s a big range. Here are some other factors you should consider before making a model.

  • Type: The most common types of meat slicers are home and commercial (there are also some medium-range slicers that are meant to be used at home, but have commercial-grade features, like my top pick from Beswood). If you plan on processing a lot of meat at one time to load into the freezer or expect to use the slicer every day, you may want to spend a bit more on a heavy-duty model. But if you’re just going to use it a few times a year, maybe for Thanksgiving leftovers or a family reunion cookout, you can get by with a meat slicer for light use.
  • Blade Size: Most slicer blades measure anywhere from 7 to 12 inches. In general, home machines have smaller blades and commercial units have larger ones. But blade size also impacts the type of slicing you want to do. For example, you’ll have better results slicing your own bacon with a larger blade diameter. Make sure you consider the size of the meats you want to work with and invest in a home meat slicer that will meet your needs.
  • Horsepower: Just like any tool, how much horsepower the motor has will affect the performance of even the best home or commercial meat slicers. In general, you will find 100 to 300 watts, but it varies. Some less powerful home meat slicers are only meant to be used for a few minutes at a time and need to take breaks (I get it, so do I!). But higher-powered commercial machines may be able to work for hours at a time.
  • Safety Features: Obviously, every one of these meat slicers comes with big, sharp blades! You know not to get your fingers in the way, but to help you be safe and protect your kids, look out for any safety features a meat slicer has. Some of the best safety features are suction cup feet, blade guards, recessed power switches, clear shields, and safety locks. If you want to be extra careful, you can wear cut-resistant gloves while you slice.
  • Size: This is a huge factor if you don’t intend to leave your meat slicer out on the counter all the time. You may want to store it in a cabinet or have the option to carry it out to your pantry or garage. Average weights can be anywhere from 10 to 40 pounds, so double-check that you’re not buying one that will be too heavy to move around if that’s your preference.

Are Meat Slicers Worth It?

Credit: Eating on a Dime

A meat slicer isn’t a must-have for every kitchen. But for a large family of meat eaters (like mine!), people who like to shop in bulk and meal prep, or frequent hunters, a meat slicer can be a game changer.

You can also use a home meat slicer on veggies and homemade bread as well, so even non-meat eaters may find that it’s a handy addition to their kitchen.

I think for a lot of people, the decision to buy an appliance like this comes down to how much counter or storage space they have. Since there are a lot of quality options that are reasonably priced, some even less than $100, I would encourage you to give one a try. You may be surprised by how much time and money it saves you in the long run!

Can You Slice Meat on a Mandoline?

It is possible to use a mandoline to slice meat, but it does have limitations. For a mandoline to work well, the meat has to be completely frozen or cured. A mandoline is not as wide as a home meat slicer, so it can only be used on small cuts of meat. Also, it’s possible that the blade won’t be sharp enough to cut through a lot of fat. So a mandoline might work if you don’t have anything better, but it’s not really recommended for use on meat.

What Stores Sell Meat Slicers?

Most of the home meat slicers I recommend can be found at common and convenient retailers like Amazon, Target, Home Depot, Williams Sonoma, and Wayfair. Sporting and outdoor shops like Cabela’s and LEM also sell them. If you’re looking for a very heavy-duty commercial meat slicer, you can even shop at restaurant supply vendors.

How Often Should a Meat Slicer Be Cleaned?

You need to clean your meat slicer after every use! Remember, raw meat can harbor bacteria and you need to clean and sanitize the machine just like you would a butcher block. Most meat slicers can be disassembled easily so you can thoroughly clean and sanitize each piece in hot water and dish soap.

Some models may come with parts that can go in the top rack of your dishwasher, which is super convenient. You should also at least wipe it down between slicing different food items, like if you switch from meat to cheese.

How Long Is Sliced Deli Meat Good For?

In general, sliced deli meat will keep in your fridge for 3 to 5 days. That’s not very long! One benefit to using a meat slicer is that you can process bulk amounts and freeze food for later. Frozen deli meat is best when used within 2 months, but can be frozen indefinitely, in theory. But for best results, taste and quality, try to use it within 2 months.

How to Sharpen a Meat Slicer Blade

Higher-quality meat slicers often come with built-in blade sharpeners, which I love! But if yours does not have that, you can still sharpen it yourself. Either way, definitely make sure the blade is very clean before you sharpen it!

Make sure your unit is unplugged, then remove the blade using the manufacturer’s instructions. You’ll also need to apply some blade-sharpening oil. Then use a medium-grit whetstone on a flat surface, holding the blade about a 20-degree angle to the stone.

Drag the stone across the blade a few times on one side, then flip the blade and do the same on the other side. Finish the blade off with a honing rod, also passing that over each side several times. Then carefully wipe the blade down to remove any metal flakes, and reattach the blade to the meat slicer.
