- Olive Oil
- Kielbasa Sausage (sliced into bite size pieces)
- Onion (finely diced)
- Carrots (peeled and diced)
- Ribs Celery (diced)
- Minced Garlic
- All Purpose Flour
- Chicken Broth
- Frozen Cubed Hash Brown Potatoes
- Red Chili Flakes
- Milk
- Salt
- Pepper
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese

- Potatoes – Feel free to change the potatoes to what you prefer. We like russet potatoes, but you can also use Yukon Gold Potatoes. You may need to cook longer if using fresh potatoes.
- Sausage – You can use any types of sausage to make this recipe. Choose from polish sausage, beef sausage, turkey kielbasa or pork sausage.
- Creamier Texture – Feel free to add in heavy cream for a creamier texter soup.
- Add-Ins – You can also add in different types of vegetables. Mix in cabbage, garlic cloves or chopped broccoli. We have even added in beans for extra texture.
How to Make Kielbasa and Potato Soup:
Step 1 – Heat the oil in a large stock pot over medium high heat. Add in the sausage and cook for approximately 3-4 minutes to brown the sausage. Remove from the pan to a separate plate
Step 2 – Add the diced onions, carrots and celery to the pan and sauté until soft (3-4 minutes). Then add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until aromatic.
Step 3 – Add the flour to the pan and whisk together with the onions. Cook for 1 minute and then slowly add in the chicken broth (whisking it in as you add it).
Step 4 – Add in the cooked sausage, potatoes, red chili flakes, milk, salt and pepper. Stir to combine all the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil.

- Slice Sausage – Slice the sausage in about the same size in bite size pieces.
- Vegetables – Prepare the vegetables by cutting them in about the same size pieces. This helps for them to cook evenly and about the same time.
- Cooking Soup – Cook the vegetables until tender and then add in flour. This helps the soup to thicken as it boils over medium heat. Cover the pot while it boils for the best results. Cooking time will vary.
- Serving – Before serving the comforting soup, make sure to taste. This allows you to adjust the seasoning if you need to.

Kielbasa Potato Soup
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 lb Kielbasa Sausage sliced into bite size pieces
- 1/2 Onion finely diced
- 2 Carrots peeled and diced
- 2 Ribs Celery diced
- 2 teaspoons Minced Garlic
- 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour
- 4 cups Chicken Broth
- 3 cups Frozen Cubed Hash Brown Potatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Flakes
- 2 cups Milk
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
- 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large stock pot over medium high heat. Add in the sausage and cook for approximately 3-4 minutes to brown the sausage. Remove from the pan to a separate plate (leave the grease in the pan).
- Add the diced onions, carrots and celery to the pan and sauté until soft (3-4 minutes). Then add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until aromatic.
- Add the flour to the pan and whisk together with the onions. Cook for 1 minute and then slowly add in the chicken broth (whisking it in as you add it). Make sure to scrape off any browned bits from the pan to add flavor to the soup.
- Add in the cooked sausage, potatoes, red chili flakes, milk, salt and pepper. Stir to combine all the ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a boil. Then cover and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and combined.
- Taste test the soup and add in more salt if needed.
- Then the soup is ready to serve and enjoy!
