Variations Ideas
- Flour – Feel free to use all purpose flour or bread flour to make this recipe.
- Toppings – If you want to add flavor, brush the dinner roll dough with a mixture of melted butter, rosemary and salt.
- Shape of Rolls – We love how these rolls turned out with placing three dough balls in the muffin pan. But feel free to shape them as you prefer.
- Yeast – We used active yeast in this recipe, which you will need to allow the dough to rise. But you can make this recipe instant yeast.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1 – Mix together 1-¼ cups of flour and yeast in an electric large bowl
Step 2 – In a small saucepan, add milk and sugar. Heat on medium low heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and the warm milk begins to steam. Stir the combination with a wooden spoon.
Step 3 – Remove from heat and add butter. Mix well until completely melted.
Step 4 – Add egg and sauce pan mixture to mixing bowl and beat on low for 30 seconds. Scrape down sides if necessary. Increase speed to high speed and beat for 3 minutes.
Step 5 – Add the remaining flour to the mixing bowl and use a dough hook to beat the dough until combined.
Step 6 – Remove dough from a bowl and place onto a lightly floured surface. Knead bread for 5-6 minutes. You shouldn’t have to add any additional flour, but if the dough is sticky sprinkle a bit onto the dough.
Step 7 – Shape dough into a ball and place into a greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap coated with cooking spray. Place in a warm location until dough rise doubled in size, about an hour.
Step 8 – Punch dough down and divide in half.
Step 9 – Place onto a lightly floured surface and cover with plastic wrap. Let rest for 10 minutes. Grease a muffin tin and set aside.
Step 10 – Cut the dough into 36 small pieces.
Step 11 – Shape each piece into a ball and pull the edges under and place 3 dough balls, smooth side up into each muffin tin or baking sheet. Let set covered for 30 minutes or until dough doubles in size. Then they are ready to bake.
Step 12 – Bake for 14-16 minutes in a 375 degree oven or until golden brown. Remove from pan and serve warm.
